Elkhart County Parks Pre/Post Field Trip Survey Questions and Answers  

The Elkhart County Parks offers a wide variety of cultural and natural history programs. With over 2,700 acres at four major county parks and various historical sites including the One Room School House and Bonneyville Mill, your classroom has plenty of places to learn about their community. 
The Elkhart County Parks offers a choice of the following field trips:

Field trip guide:

Outdoor Cultural and Natural History Program: These programs are offered year round in your choice of park setting including Ox Bow County Park, Bonneyville Mill County Park, Cobus Creek County Park or the River Preserve County Park. Choose from one of 17 different programs offered in our program guide link below. (Please note: presentations in the classroom are not included in the grant).

Bonneyville Mill:  Established in the mid-1830s, Bonneyville Mill has produced quality, stone ground flour for over 170 years. Historical interpreter’s lead students through the "daily grind", discuss the history of the mill, and demonstrate how water power has been harnessed to grind grain into flour.  These programs are limited to Wednesday through Friday during the months of May through October.

One Room School House:  Visit a real One Room School House and experience curriculum and activities during the late 1800s. Students will do arithmetic on slate boards, read from McGuffy readers, learn 19th century rules, experience an old-fashioned recess, and do a choice of a making a candle or tin punching. These programs are available anytime November through March, and on a limited basis spring and fall.
