Wellfield Botanic Gardens Pre/Post Field Trip Survey Questions and Answers  

Wellfield Botanic Gardens is situated on 36 acres including 18 acres of water on a historical piece of property known as the North Main Street well field.  The site has been a source of hydraulic energy and drinking water for the City of Elkhart since the mid 1800’s and is the City’s largest source of drinking water.

The Gardens promotes the inseparable relationship between water, plants, animals and people.  It is a source of inspiration, creativity and education in a setting dedicated to the celebration of nature.  The Gardens offer outdoor, inquiry based programs designed to connect students to the natural world and are aligned with State and National Science standards.

Growing Up Green – 3rd Grade

  • Students identify plant parts, growth and development through hands on activities and exploration.

Amazing Adaptations - 4th Grade

  • Students discover how animals and plants live in their habitat and adapt to changes in their environment.

What’s Eating You – 5th Grade

  • Students explore ecosystems and food webs.  They observe everything from decomposers to predators and how we are all interconnected.   

*WBG fieldtrips require an 8:1 students to chaperone ratio.  Additional adults are $3.50.
